This position is located in a Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The purpose of the position is to serve as a carpenter for the construction and repair of carpentry work on park structures.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Measurement and Layout Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) SCREEN OUT: Perform the work of a carpenter without more than normal supervision including performing journey level carpentry work repairing a variety of building structures such as full door and window replacement, repairing a variety of roof coverings, replacing flooring or other journeyman level remodeling of bathrooms and kitchens. I have estimated material and equipment for construction projects. Safety has been a priority in all work assignments. Perform construction, alteration, installation, repair and modification of items and structures such as framework, rafters, concrete forms, walls, doors, finished paneling, window frames, interior and exterior trims, staircases, trusses, beams, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, and computer consoles where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential and structural soundness and appearance are important. Knowledge and ability to read and interpret blueprints. Area Information Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the south shore of Lake Superior between the communities of Munising (population 2,500) and Grand Marais. The duty stations for these positions are at Munising and Grand Marais. Government housing may be available for rent. Amenities in Munising include basic shopping, medical facilities, and K-12 schools. Grand Marais has a population of less than 500 people and shopping is limited. K-12 schools are available in Grand Marais. Basic shopping and medical facilities for those at Grand Marais are available 60 miles away in Munising. Summers are generally warm and pleasant. The winter season may extend from October to May and is often characterized by cold temperatures and seasonal snowfall in excess of 140 inches. The area is rich in outdoor sporting activities including hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, biking, camping, and skiing.
