This position is located within the Construction Branch for the Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in Lakewood, CO; Grand Junction, CO; Carson City, NV; Albuquerque, NM; Clovis, CA. The Construction Control Inspector is responsible for the physical construction of federal projects under the jurisdiction of Central Federal Lands.

If qualifying on education, it must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for this position. For the GS-05: On Experience, you must have at least one year of experience, equal or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level, which included: Experience following directions to perform technical procedures. Or on Education, you must have a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as drafting, surveying, mathematics, physical science, industrial technology, industrial arts, or technical subjects pertinent to construction; or engineering technician work such as electricity, material testing, or engineering mechanics. You can also have a combination of post high-school education, and some specialized experience as described above, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. For the GS-06: On Experience, you must have at least one year of experience, equal or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level, which included: Experience following documents to perform technical procedures; AND Experience performing detail-oriented tasks to completion. Or on Education, you must have at least one half a year of graduate level education leading to a master's degree or equivalent with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology. You can also have a combination of graduate education and experience, if you have completed some graduate level classes leading to a master's degree or equivalent with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology and some specialized experience as described above, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will also be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Building and Construction - Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings. As a Construction Control Inspector, you will: Assist in the administration of construction contract(s) by providing contractor direction, monitoring construction activity, and control in such a manner as to ensure that the Division projects are constructed in compliance with plans and specifications. Provide construction management control and surveillance of the work being performed by the contractor. Assist with maintaining/monitoring fiscal control relative to the execution of the construction contract. Assess the measurement and documentation of work completed on a daily basis, as well as the preparation of monthly progress estimates, final estimate, and engineering administrative and technical reports as required. Assist in managing the performance of preliminary surveys, materials testing, and design work. The ideal candidate for this position is a construction manager or inspector on a variety of construction projects. Primary duties include ensuring compliance with contract specifications, technical direction and guidance, and contract administration services and support.
