In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following work in land surveying. At this level, work assignments require the land surveyor to determine approaches and solutions to land surveying situations involving a variety of complicating factors; using judgment in modifying, adapting, and making compromises within standard guidelines; applying standard practices to new situations, relating the work to precedents; and communicating project status and with interested parties. Examples: coordinate with interested parties as chief of parties or project manager; manage complex and complicated cadastral survey or resurvey projects using a variety of survey equipment, including total stations, data collectors, handheld calculators, and GPS receivers; prepare written reports describing unique problems encountered with recommendations for solutions for management to make proper decisions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Plan, conduct, document and guide Public Land Survey System surveys and resurveys, mineral surveys, Homestead Entry surveys, Indian allotment, riparian or littoral boundaries following public land laws and Interior of Land Board Appeals decisions.
Design data collection projects and collect geodetic data to verify accuracy and reliability of existing surveys and/or to provide more precise positions for the Geographic Data Coordinate Data Base.
Prepare Instructions for survey requests by researching, documenting, collecting, and interpreting records. Create reports that document unusual survey decisions in preparation for expert witness testimony that may be required by a court of law.
Research, document, collect, and interpret administrative and historical records which may determine if a field investigation is required to verify facts.
Train others in official plat and note production. Provide technical advice, direction, and assistance to survey crews.
