This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Great Lakes Agency in Ashland, Wisconsin. Incumbent ensures the timely preparation of probate cases, maintains probate filing and tracking system, and supporting the BIA probate function. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards The following shows the amounts of education and/or experience required to qualify for positions covered by this standard. GS-04: 1-year general experience OR 2 years above high school. General Experience GS-4: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. GS-05: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 OR 4 years above high school. Specialized Experience: Maintenance to statistical records; prepare documents for distribution; perform research and assemble data; prepare research and assemble data; use of automated systems to provide maintenance of data, track data, answer routine questions regarding governing policies and procedures; use of proper grammar in oral and written communication. Proficiency Requirements: Position with Parenthetical Title of Office Automation - In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of 40 word per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet this requirement by self-certifying their proficiency. Experience using automation and computers for supply management is highly desired. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
Ensuring the timely preparation of probate cases, maintaining accurate probate filing and tracking systems.
Assisting Probate Specialist in preparation of guidance; maintaining statistical records on estate planning, and summary distributions.
Maintaining data in automated probate tracking systems.
Changing appropriate records (manual and automated) to reflect changes in records as a result of Orders issued.
Receiving calls and visitors and answers inquiries from owners of trust and restricted land regarding rules governing probate; etc.
