This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Perform a full repair cycle of locating malfunction, disassembly, repair, cleaning, reassembly, and re-installation of a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices; 2) Determine the work sequence and select hand and power tools (e.g. files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, grinders, buffers, stamping machines, electric drills, soldering, irons, brazing torches, bench lathes and drill presses) to repair locking mechanisms; and 3) Plan techniques to be used and apply judgement in the selection of tools and accepted trade practices to troubleshoot and neutralize locks according to appropriate guidelines, manufacturer drawings, diagrams, and technical manuals. You will read appropriate guidelines, manufacturer drawings, diagrams, and technical manuals to determine project requirements.
You will perform visual checks to detect worn or damaged parts (e.g., broken springs, jammed pins, bent discs, broken tail pieces, rust, and corrosion).
You will use tools and equipment of the locksmith trade to install locks throughout an organization.
You will duplicate keys using cutting or duplicating machines. Establish master key systems to set up coding systems for different types of locks and keyways.
You will repair, overhaul, modify, and install locking devices which make up security or surveillance systems.
