Job Description:
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management (OASAM) is accepting applications for Summer 2025 Student Volunteers. OASAM provides infrastructure and support that enables the DOL to perform its mission. OASAM provides leadership and support for information technology, human resources management, procurement, business operations, safety and health, space management, civil rights, emergency management, security, budget, and performance.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is preferred. Ability to manage multiple assignments, projects and/or initiatives. Ability to analyze data and information. Ability to communicate with others and make presentations. An interest in public administration, public policy or public service. Ability to work effectively in an in-office, telework, or combination of both (hybrid) work setting (if applicable). Ability to work well in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to organize a variety of assignments simultaneously to meet deadlines.
In order to be eligible for this opportunity you must be able to obtain academic credit from your institution OR a third-party stipend of at least $15.00 per hour or higher if the locality you are selected for has a higher minimum wage than $15.00. Duties include but are not limited to: Student Trainee: assignments can include the following: assist in basic research; qualitative and quantitative research; preparing briefing papers, and/or position papers; assist in the preparation of management reports; assist in the preparation of risk assessments, track and document changes, and/or collect and analyze data; Creating tables and graphs to present research findings; Writing and administering online surveys; Writing reports of research findings and all other duties assigned. Assignments may be in one or more of the fields: Administrative and Program Support (program administration, policy, procedures, recordkeeping, etc.), Accounting, Budget, and Finance, Human Resources, Communications, Project or Program Management or (data collection and analysis). While duties and responsibilities will vary by office assignment, examples of potential duties include: Report to a supervisor within the host Agency and will have the opportunity to engage in DOL-wide meetings or events to gain exposure to the broad set of issues and policies that the Department of Labor addresses under its mission. Gain experience working with executives, managers, and employees who are committed to advancing the welfare of wage earners, job seekers, and retirees; improving working conditions; advancing opportunities for workforce development and training and assuring work-related benefits and rights. Assist with a wide variety of administrative, planning and research activities pertaining to the development, implementation, and evaluation of organizational policies and priorities. Perform various analytical assignments supporting special or ongoing projects, assist senior staff in consolidating data to prepare reports, and review and analyze program activities. Provide essential support such as organize high-level meetings, prepare talking points, briefing materials, and presentations for leadership. Build professional relationships: interact with DOL colleagues and other government agencies on relevant matters.
