The Secret Service, Office of Protective Operations, is seeking Civil Service retirees under the CSRS or FERS retirement system and ICTAP eligibles to support our integrated mission and impart knowledge and experience to our current workforce in support of our integrated mission. The Officer's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees, in a tradition of honor, integrity, and a commitment to excellence.
To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying. Education and/or Training may not be substituted for specialized experience. You qualify for the LE-1 level (starting salary $56,095.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: Covering designated security post to limit access to protected areas; Standing fixed posts, or patrols assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle; and Preparing reports of unusual incidents occurring on post Selective Placement Factor: Applicant must possess a current valid driver's license. Series 0083 - OPM Qualification Standards for Occupational Series - 0083 National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. As determined by the Office of Personnel Management, the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.Since the duties of this position are exacting and involve the responsibility for the safety of others under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any condition that would hinder full, efficient performance of the duties of this position or that would cause the individual to be a hazard to himself/herself or to others is disqualifying. There are also specific medical requirements for this position, and any chronic disease or condition affecting the respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, digestive, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, nervous, genitourinary, and other systems that would impair full performance of the duties of the position may also be disqualifying. During the course of working in the Uniformed Division, Officers (Uniformed Division) carry out critical investigations and protection assignments. Duties include: Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area, and other USSS protected locations. Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, foreign heads of state/government missions, and other USSS protectees. The current OPM Dual Comp Waiver expires December 31, 2028. If is not renewed, individuals appointed before December 31, 2028, may continue until their not-to-exceed date is reached with their salaries offset. Receive Overtime Earn Annual Leave and Sick Leave Annuitants receiving a dual comp waiver are not eligible to contribute to TSP or make contributions to retirement. This position is a term non-status appointment in the competitive service for retired federal employees that may not exceed four (4) years. The Officer (Uniformed Division) position starts at a base salary of $56,095 (LE-01 step 1) to $72,930 (LE-01 step 07). Highest Previous Rate (HPR) will not be offered.
