This is a 120-day, temporary promotion/detail assignment that may be extended up to one year (Not -to-Exceed 1-year). More than one detailee may be selected for this opportunity. Upon completion you will be returned to former or comparable position at the same grade, step, and pay you would have attained if you had not received the temporary promotion/assignment.
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/07/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-15 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: This experience includes: 1) providing leadership and direction for the strategic planning, management, and operation of National Park Service (or similar) functions and activities; 2) developing, implementing and evaluating park programs (or similar) involving management and administration, resource management, interpretation and education, visitor services, and maintenance; 3) making key operational decisions regarding budget, personnel, and program execution; 4) setting strategic priorities for a park (or similar); 5) making effective and timely decisions regarding significant or controversial issues; and 6) effectively supervising subordinate supervisors in a geographically dispersed workforce. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months/years format, hours per week worked and salary to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
The Deputy Superintendent for Lake Mead National Recreation Area is responsible for: Enabling a thriving workplace for a workforce of over 300 and overseeing a multifaceted budget. Supervising the Park's Divisions of Visitor and Resource Protection, Business Operations Center, Resource Management and Visitor Services, Maintenance and Engineering, Commercial Services; Public Affairs and Safety. Developing, nurturing and managing a complex array of partnerships throughout the Park. Serving as Acting Superintendent as needed.
