The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Smithsonian Facilities (SF), Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR). The Office of Facilities Management and Reliability provides the full range of building services through maintenance and operational zones.
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as installing, inspecting, repairing, and diagnostic testing to Mobile Asset Repair Equipment such as gasoline/diesel assets and EV-Electrical Vehicles. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. The Lead Engineering Technician (Vehicles) is responsible for installing, repairing, overhauling, rebuilding, modifying, testing and troubleshooting integrated mechanical and electrical systems. In this position, you will: Install, repair, overhaul, rebuild, modify, test, program, and troubleshoot major integrated mechanical and electrical systems such as Fleet wave Automotive System, Diagnostic Equipment, AC/Air conditioning, EV Electric Motor Repair, etc. Assist Agency Fleet Manager and Mobile Asset Supervisor with activities related to conducting regularly scheduled inventories, disposal of surplus, resolving discrepancies, maintaining automated tracking systems and interacting with accountable property professionals. Advise the supervisor of shop stock needs, services parts, and supplies. Perform analysis to ensure cost effective utilization when dealing with vendors. Analyze, evaluate, and report on complex mechanical and electrical systems operations.
