Job Description:

This position is located in the Curecanti National Recreation Area, in the Facility Management-Construction and Engineering Division in Gunnison, CO. This position reports directly to the Buildings and Utilities Supervisor and is responsible for coordination of staffing duties. Ensuring all stock supplies are readily available and on hand and ensures all required duties are being completed. Acts as a liaison between lower graded custodial personnel and Supervisor.

Lead others in performing custodial services. Teach and lead others in tool use related to custodial work. Lead others in safe vehicle operation. Performs the full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area following general instructions on the work to be done. Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Washes walls using powered wall washing machine and/or by hand. Vacuums/cleans rugs using heavy vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans and oils these machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them. Washes and replaces blinds and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment. Replaces and/or installs paper goods, etc., in restrooms. Uses various preparations to clean and maintain linoleum, wood, marble, and various kinds of floor, wall. and ceiling surfaces. Removes stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc. Runs powered cleaning equipment; cleans and oils it, and changes brushes and accessories. As required, keeps shop areas clean and in order. Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes oil, hydraulic fluid, grease, and other spilled liquids. Moves heavy boxes, crates, parts, or other obstacles in order to clean up the area and picks up scraps of wood, metal and other materials. Removes scrap and trash cans from area to central pickup point. Wipes benches, machinery etc. as directed. Performs general trash collection/removal from areas such as offices, restrooms, public areas, etc. On a regular and recurring basis operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc.) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park. Occasionally provides general labor assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Physical Effort: On a normal workday, the employee will work under fast-paced conditions to ensure that the custodial tasks and the crew are ready for the day of visitation. Most of the workday requires long hours of being on their feet, bending, crouching, stooping, several varieties of physical arm and body motions when sweeping and mopping and cleaning overhead. They may walk up and down stairs and slopes of varying degrees several times in a day. They will be required to be able to lift and move boxes or containers that weigh more than 50 lbs. They will be required to know how to use properly. On a normal workday, the employee will work under fast-paced conditions to ensure that the custodial tasks and the crew are ready for the day of visitation. Most of the workday requires long hours of being on their feet, bending, crouching, stooping, several varieties of physical arm and body motions when sweeping and mopping and cleaning overhead. They may walk up and down stairs and slopes of varying degrees several times in a day. They will be required to be able to lift and move boxes or containers that weigh in excess of 50 lbs. They will be required to know how to use properly. Working Conditions: The typical work surroundings will be both indoors and outdoors. The winter temperatures can be 30 degrees below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and the summer temperatures can be above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The environment is varied while conditions are dry and arid most of the year, the area is subject to heavy rains, snow, and high winds. All of these can create hazardous driving and working conditions. Many days are spent going from an indoor tempered environment to an outdoor hot and dry environment. This employee will work with a variety of chemicals that have low risks to human health when used properly.
