This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Northwest Region, Fort Hall Agency, Branch of Irrigation in Fort Hall, Idaho. This is a Bargaining Unit position, for more information see What are bargaining units? NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions, GS-0459 or IOR if applicable). Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Farming or ranching work that provided knowledge of soil and water conservation practices and irrigation procedures used in the geographical area for which application is made. Construction, maintenance, or operating work that provided a knowledge of the control, regulation, distribution, and measurement of water. Controlling, clearing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation ditches, canals, and equipment; or soil conservation or engineering technician work where the duties provided a knowledge of irrigation procedures. EDUCATION: This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. GS-7: I have at least 1 year of specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-06 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience involving farming or ranching work that provided knowledge of soil and water conservation practices and irrigation procedures used in the geographical area for which application is made; construction, maintenance, or operating work that provided a knowledge of the control, regulation, distribution, and measurement of water; controlling, clearing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation ditches, canals, and equipment; or soil conservation or engineering technician work where the duties provided a knowledge of irrigation procedures; OR one (1) full year of graduate education in disciplines directly related to this position. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
Responsible for all irrigation delivery divisions and able to explain the irrigation operation.
Receive water orders, takes daily measurements, maintains records or water delivery, reservoir inflow and outflow instream flows, calculates requirements for area served.
Operates project distribution facilities to regulate and deliver water in accordance with Bureau water project policies and procedures.
Responsible for constant surveillance and condition or irrigation related facilities. Recommends needed maintenance and schedules repairs.
Plan work for subordinates, establish priorities and prepares schedules for completion.
Communicate with customers and Irrigation System Operators to report any problems with scheduling or delivery of irrigation water.
