This is a paid summer internship opportunity under the Pathways Internship Program, which provides students with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers. Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited academic institution and have a 2.5 GPA or higher to be eligible for a Pathways Internship Appointment. In addition to the above appointment requirements, see below qualification requirements: To qualify at the GS-1 level, you must be at least 16 years of age and enrolled in an accredited educational institution (this includes High School). To qualify at the GS-2 level, you must possess at least three months of experience performing clerical, office, or other general work experience; OR you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. To qualify at the GS-3 level, you must possess at least six months of experience performing clerical, office, or other general work experience; OR you have successfully completed one year of education above the high school level; OR you possess a combination of post-high school education and general experience, as described above, that meets 100% of the qualification requirements. To qualify at the GS-4 level, you must possess at least one year of experience performing clerical, office, or other general work experience; OR you have successfully completed two years of education above the high school level; OR you possess a combination of post-high school education and general experience, as described above, that meets 100% of the qualification requirements. To qualify at the GS-05 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the federal service performing administrative or clerical office support activities. OR have successfully completed four full years of education above high school level; OR have a combination of post-high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. Examples of specialized experience include: developing and maintaining spreadsheets and other financial records; developing work tracking systems to ensure timely completion of work assignments; coordinating and making travel arrangements; and composing/typing reports in final. Experience refers to paid & unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) & other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills & can provide valuable training & experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
This is an opportunity under the Internship Program under Pathways. The Internship Program provides students enrolled in high schools, colleges, trade schools & other qualifying educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies & explore Federal careers while completing their education. Veteran's Preference is applied. All our Student Trainee (Business Operation Clerk) positions are administrative and clerical in nature. You will provide support to National Science Foundation scientists and administrators who promote and fund the best possible awards through grants. These positions can be your first step into a fulfilling career at NSF! As a Student Trainee (Business Operations Clerk) SUMMER, you will perform the following duties: Various word processing assignments, such as generating reports, evaluation statements, documents, statistical material, letters and memoranda, charts, graphs, travel authorizations, and vouchers. Review final typed materials for proper format and correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Data entry assignments using various database management systems. Establish new files and maintain a range of alphabetical, numerical, and chronological filing systems; cross-reference files and supplement them with new material, when necessary; and update files for improved organization and efficiency. Handle telephone inquiries and visitors by directing them to the appropriate staff member or providing basic office information. Create initial drafts of routine documents, such as memoranda, letters, or reports, using established templates. Corrects or updates spreadsheets, graphs, reports, databases, and other files using appropriate software (e.g., Excel and PowerPoint). Search, select, compile, assemble, and arrange diverse data from office files, records, reports, and other organizations, presenting it in a concise format for staff. Compile materials for meetings and carry out basic research. Receive, screen, track, and direct correspondence, circulars, and other material to appropriate staff members while maintaining follow-up control.
