Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): Physical Science Technician Series 1311 Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will conduct air, water, and surface radiation surveys in shipyard areas
You will check out deviations from normal or anticipated radiation levels
You will implement radiological control (RADCON) procedures related to the storage, local transportation, and treatment of small volumes of nuclear waste
You will monitor the storage and transportation of contaminated equipment
You will identify conditions which affect the determination of actions necessary to contain and control radiation
You will ensure adherence to RADCON requirements
You will recommend changes to work plans and trades procedures to improve radiological controls, correct deficiencies, increase efficiency, minimize exposure and prevent incidents
