Job Description:
The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division, Carpentry Branch. The Wood Crafter Leader is assigned to lead WG-10 Wood Crafters in making and repairing high-grade wooden items such as fine cabinetry and furniture.

You must meet the screen-out factor required for this position: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This includes providing advice and guidance to workers engaged in wood crafting work (e.g., making and repairing high-grade wooden items such as fine cabinetry and furniture).
***Tour of Duty ( Monday - Friday: 7:30 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.) Hours may change due to operational needs of Management. ***This position is Emergency Essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations*** This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division, Carpentry Branch. The employee serves as a working Wood Crafter Leader, leading WG-10 Wood Crafters in making and repairing high-grade wooden items such as fine cabinetry and furniture. Leader Responsibilities: -Passes on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started by distributing the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group -Works along with other workers and setting the pace and checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been followed. -Demonstrates proper work methods and ensuring that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained. -Obtains necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift. -Maintains current knowledge on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy. -Reports to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays. -Answers supervisor's questions on overall work operations and problems. -Utilizes various office automation software for maintaining records such as TMA work orders, price estimates, and status reports. Utilizes acquisition and material management procedures to order and maintain supplies, equipment and materials. -Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures and utilizes knowledge of all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. -Ensures the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Carpentry Projects -Utilizes a wide knowledge of wood supplies and precision woodworking methods to plan and lay out work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches, and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength, and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers, and wood substitutes for projects. Participates in pre-construction demolition projects, renovations, and new construction. Crafts High-Quality, Decorative Woodwork -Selects cuts, turns, shapes, joins, bonds, fits, assembles, and decorates wooden materials and parts using a variety of hand and power woodworking tools, machines, and techniques to create superior and structurally reliable wood work which requires exact fitting and close weight, pressure, and size tolerances to construct speciality furniture. Woodwork examples include cabinetry, furniture, bookcases, countertops, wainscot paneling, rostrums, podiums, and reception counters.
