This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense (DOD) Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This vacancy announcement is OPEN UNTIL FILLED. Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic (Public Notice Flyer) without more than normal supervision. Performing maintenance and repair of buildings, structures and fixtures including carpentry (repairing and replacing flooring, sheet rock, roofing, door jambs and window sills); plumbing (repairing and replacing lavatories, commodes, sinks and disposals); electrical (replacing fixtures, receptacles, switches). - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading). Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Use of Measuring Instruments. Physical Effort: Frequently lifts and carries materials and equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance. Required to walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb ladders and scaffolds, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, occasionally in unheated buildings or outside in inclement weather. Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, foul odors, paint fumes. Subject to cuts and bruises and from hand and powered tools, minor electric shock, and danger of falls from ladders. The primary objective of this DHA is to appoint qualified candidates who are not existing DoD competitive service employees with permanent status. Category rating, veteran's preference, military spouse preference, and traditional rating and ranking of applicants ARE NOT applicable to this vacancy. Veterans and Military Spouses will be considered along with all other candidates. This announcement will be closed once the position is filled.
Repair and replace studs, plates, rafters, sills, braces, flooring, sheet rock, siding, and roofing.
Fabricate and install frames and casings for windows and doors.
Perform plumbing work involving maintenance and repair of a wide variety of piping and plumbing fixtures.
Measure, cut and thread piping.
Replace broken lavatories, commodes, sinks, garbage disposals and hot water tanks.
Make repairs on hot water tank controls (gas valves, thermocouples, safety pop off valves and pilot lights).
Make electrical repairs by removing and replacing defective parts such as fixtures, receptacles, switches, ballasts, sockets, and transformers.
Operate vehicles up to and including 1 ton transporting personnel, equipment and supplies.
