About the position: This is a RPT (part-time) position located at the Pershing Child Development Center on Joint Base Langley-Eustis VA - Ft Eustis location. Position is guaranteed 20 hours per week. Must have resided in the U.S. or U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start date. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: ALL LEVELS Must be a high school graduate, or equivalent; and be able to provide proof (i.e., diploma or equivalent) for verification. Must have one (1) year experience in and knowledge of food preparation principles and characteristics of food, and of planning processes to ensure entire meals are prepared and cooked on time. Must be able to perform yield testing to determine portion cost and to adjust ingredients in standardized recipes. Must have knowledge of procedures to order, issue and store food. Experience and knowledge must have been gained in a grill, snack bar, restaurant, club or similar food activity. Must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, read, speak and write English, successfully pass a pre-employment physical, maintain current immunizations and be physically and behaviorally capable of performing the duties of the job. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use."
1. Prepare entire meals/snacks which require coordinating the cooking of several items with different cooking times and techniques, planning the cooking process to produce meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks) are served on time and at proper temperatures. Prepare and serve meals that meet USDA/CACFP food meal patterns and Air Force regulations. Also prepares special foods in conjunction with special events. Perform a range of cooking tasks by preparing and cooking items that require following standardized recipes with fresh or canned food items. Prepare hot cereals, broiled meats, concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies, cold sandwich fillings, fish fillets and grilled or baked chicken, etc. Prepare and bake pizza with fresh ingredients. Prepare food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading. Weighs, measures and assembling ingredients for standardized recipes. Portion foods for distribution during meal service IAW family style dining requirements and deliver to classrooms in a timely manner for established meal periods. Performs yield testing to determine portion cost and to adjust ingredients in standardized recipes. 2. Follows food handler and Public Health requirements with regard to preparation, storing, cleaning, etc., to ensure a safe and healthy food operation and environment is maintained. Ensure all equipment, appliances, counters, sinks, floors, etc., are cleaned and sanitized appropriately. Clean inside and outside of cabinets, ovens, refrigerators, and other large appliances in accordance with established schedules using health/sanitation methods. 3. Prepare all meals and snacks meeting Air Force, DoD, and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requirements following ServSafe requirements. Follow approved and posted USDA, DoD, and AF menus. In the absence of the Cook Supervisor, complete food purchasing form IAW USDA menus and submit to designee for ordering, ensuring it is submitted in a timely manner. Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period. 4. Performs other related duties as assigned
