Job Description:

This position is located at the Cheyenne River Health Center, Eagle Butte, SD. This position serves as the Assistant Director of Nursing and will assist the Director of Nursing and supervision of Nursing Services. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND License: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they most possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States (Applicants must list their license number on their resume, along with the expiration date, OR submit a copy of their Nursing license that includes the expiration date. Acceptable verification of licensure includes a print out from a State Board of Nursing website [or other applicable license verification website that reflects your licensure status]). In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Oversees a nursing division in an operating health care facility; management ability to delegate authority; formulates and implements nursing services in accordance with existing requirements, methods and procedures; provides leadership and direction to nursing programs ensuring proper health care management, evidence based practice, safe and quality patient care; establishes and maintains compliance with various regulatory accreditations, professional agencies, administrative policies and procedures, laws, regulations, standards and directives that are applicable to the organization; maintains positive partnerships with community, tribal, and educational programs and institutions; and ensures accountability to the governing board. Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position. Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Supervises and performs nursing care, provides guidance to the nursing staff, demonstrates operation and care of specialized equipment such as, cardiac monitors, defibrillator, IV pump, and other equipment used in nursing. Develops and maintains criteria for standards of nursing care and for procedures to audit compliance with established standards. Implements changes in existing programs and develops new programs to meet emerging needs.
