This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Industrial Equipment Maintenance Mechanic Leader is located with the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Riley, KS.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Equipment Maintenance Mechanic Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. - I have the ability to perform common duties with include determining the proper material, equipment or part that are required for repairs or maintenance. I can interpret guides such as blueprints, sketches, and technical manuals to perform maintenance or repairs. I am able to perform repairs or maintenance on industrial equipment and troubleshoot to diagnose malfunctions. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort - Employee often works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places, and therefore, require stooping, stretching, bending and kneeling for long periods of time. Frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions - Work is performed inside and outside in all kinds of weather, in temperature extremes, and in rain, wind, and dust storms. Physical effort is required to lift and carry heavy units. Work is frequently performed on concrete floors in cramped quarters and awkward positions. Work is frequently dirty and greasy, although in some offices and rooms, care must be taken to keep areas clean. There is exposure to electrical shocks, burns, cuts, and bruises, and possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gasses. Must climb long ladders and work from ladders and scaffolding, aerial trucks up to 45 feet in height. Subject to rotational emergency call back work after normal duty hours and on weekends and scheduled overtime requirements which are compensated by overtime payments.
Employee serves as a working leader of employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.
Employee passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor and demonstrates proper work methods.
Checks work in progress and completed work for compliance with supervisor's instructions or work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and urges and advises other employees to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines.
Performs the full range of work involved in the installation, relocation, repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers, air conditioning units and systems, ventilating systems, and related equipment.
Trains inexperienced personnel by giving on-the-job instructions and assistance and observes all safety rules and regulations.
