Job Description:
This position serves as an Auditor-in-Charge (AIC) regularly leading high-risk engagements or segments of large audits with significant scope and complexity. Band IIB Senior Auditors have full responsibility for planning and carrying out all phases of the engagement.
Band IIB Must be a full-time or part-time GAO employee on a permanent appointment. In addition, employees must have a minimum of 52 weeks of GAO experience, equivalent to at least the next lower band level (PE-IIA, PT-II, PT-III, PA-II, MS-I) in a position focused on conducting research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, or program evaluations by May 18, 2025 (effective date of promotions).
As a Senior Auditor, PE, 0511, 22, your typical work assignments may include the following: Serves as an AIC of an engagement team. Oversees all aspects of design, data collection and analysis, message development and report writing and ensures the quality and value of the final product. Prioritizes the work to ensure milestones are met. Assigns work to team members to include expectations and deadlines for completing the assignment. Coaches, mentors and trains team members. Ensures coordination with stakeholders. Directs the planning and design of the engagement. In conjunction with team members, clarifies objectives and develops a design matrix and project plan that will meet the requester's needs. Works with clients and management to obtain approval for commitment. Oversees the execution of the engagement plan. Collects and analyzes data from a variety of sources including interviews with agency managers and program officials. Reviews program documents, reports and data. Selects, refines, organizes and presents factual information and analysis in support of engagement objectives. In collaboration with other engagement team members, and based on consultation with the Assistant Director (AD) and Director, decides on form, content, scope, and depth of analysis. Evaluates and analyzes data to determine relevance and reliability through referencing and indexing. Develops findings and recommendations and prepares written products that provide factual and analytical information in a clear, balanced manner that meet the needs of congressional clients and meet all audit requirements and GAO's quality standards. As a Senior Auditor on an engagement team, serves as a coach and mentor to Band I Auditor and Professional Development Program (PDP) staff. As assigned, may serve on an engagement team conducting financial audits including the consolidated financial statement audit of the Federal government (involving up to 35 federal agencies). On occasion, may perform as an individual contributor based on the incumbent's unique knowledge, skills and abilities. Ensures that product meets all GAO standards for quality and is in conformance with all agency policies and requirements. As required, may be assigned off-line and other duties such as PDP advising.
