THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST - TITLE 32, Position Description Number PDD2939000 and PDD2940000 and is part of the KY COA, National Guard.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: FOR THE GS-09: Must have at least 24 months experience performing periodic onsite surveys, determining compliance with applicable occupational safety standards. Experience in preparing or revising safety instructions and guides. Experience advising personnel of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes. Experience investigating and recording circumstances of mishaps and extent of injuries, preparing final report(s) of findings with recommendations to correct the unsafe acts or conditions which caused injuries or property damage. FOR THE GS-11: Must have a least 36 months specialized experience performing inspections of base facilities, warehouses, and equipment maintenance operations and evaluated compliance with applicable regulations and hazard system. Experience recommending measures and methods to correct safety and occupational health deficiencies. Experience planning for testing of munitions, and assured integration of explosive safety criteria in testing procedures. Experience testing implementation directives for inclusion of appropriate safety criteria. Experience preparing supplements to regulations and manuals for aircraft weapons safety and developed local regulations defining applicable mishap prevention procedures. As a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST - TITLE 32, GS-0018-9/11, you will serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for the State ARNG. Coordinate with senior safety personnel and provide quality actions and plans for the sustainment of State ARNG Safety and Occupational Health Management Systems (ASOHMS) within the broad framework of statutory public law, DOD, Army, and National Guard policy, goals, and objectives. Implement plans, methods, and assess risks to improve safety in the workplace and off-duty environments. Reduce preventable mishaps in the preservation of ARNG personnel, equipment, facilities, and resources. Execute a complex SO&EH program for a broad occupational field involving a wide variety of changing, high-risk operations, environmental conditions, and hazardous materials. Review and update the State SOH Plan, State safety policy and Standard Operating Procedures for SOH programs. Receive direction and guidance from the supervisor or safety and occupational health manager for continuing or individual assignments, limitations, quality, and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of work conditions involving a substantial number and diversity of hazards; or a wide variety of independent and continuing assignments in a specialized area of safety and occupational health that have exacting technical requirements. Perform inspections of daily operations and workplaces. Identify high risk hazardous operations and procedures and ensure mitigation countermeasures are effective. Perform inspections, assessments, and surveys of daily safety and occupational health operations and workplaces requiring a degree of physical exertion. Prepare and conduct safety briefings, general and specialized training courses for supervisors, collateral duty representatives, labor union representatives, safety committees, and employees on safety related matters.
