The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for an Motor Vehicle Operator. The Motor Vehicle Operator will function in Logistics Service.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/27/2025. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Moderate exertion is required in operating, turning, backing and controlling vehicles that carry heavy loads or large numbers of people. In addition to good vision, the work will require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or stooping. Occasionally handles objects weighing over 150 pounds with assistance while loading and unloading trucks. Drives in all types of traffic and weather conditions and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. The incumbent is subjected to noise level up to 85dbs. for up to eight hours a day. May be required to work staggered shifts to include holidays.
The duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator include, but are not limited to: Operates passenger buses that are equipped with medical support equipment to transport patients. Performs the daily preventive maintenance on vehicles to include the cleanliness of the vehicles interior and exterior. Performs duties in accordance with all applicable and current laws, regulations, VA directives, policies, etc. Pre-trip inspection on all vehicles before departure. Loads and unloads patients, medical supplies safely. Applies safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations. Practices and promotes safe work and driving habits. Transports patients in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner. Responsible for the accurate and timely submission of all operating records such as Motor Vehicle Trip Tickets (VA Form 3075), entries in to assigned Motor Vehicle trip Log Sheet (SF 10-1281). Vehicle Log Sheets will be renewed monthly and mileage certifications on all refueling receipts completed. Responsible for the submission of all motor vehicle accident reports that include the Operator Report of Motor Vehicle Accident (SF Form 91) Police reports form City/State and Federal authorities. The incumbent will report all accidents and injuries to the supervisor, utilizing the proper forms CA-1, CA-2, CA-3, incident reports and Reports of contact. Operates special mechanical equipment such as wheelchair lifts, fold-up lift tailgate and wheelchair restraint security system. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, standard eight-hour shift scheduled (based on need and seniority) between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and may include evening, weekend, and holidays.
