***THIS PUBLIC NOTICE COVERS ALL SUMMER HIRE STUDENT TRAINEE, GS-0399-01/02/03/04/05 POSITIONS FOR ALL TITLES*** The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee with on-the-job training and guidance. The student trainee will perform very simple, routine clerical work in office, business, or fiscal operations and to provide training and experience for higher graded work.

NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. GS-02: Experience: Three months of general experience for GS-0399-02 level positions. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. -OR- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. GS-03: Experiences: Six months of general experience for GS-0399-03 level positions. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. -OR- Education: Completion of 1 academic year of post-high school study. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. GS-04: One year of general experience for GS-0399-03 level positions. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. -OR- Education: Completion of 2 academic year of post-high school study or an associate's degree. (You must submit a copy of transcripts) -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. GS-05: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-04) or equivalent. Specialized experience as includes performing a wide range of information processing, preparing, advising, assisting, coding, and procedural problem-solving duties as a computer assistant. or Experience using various office automation software processing procedures and function keys and the similarities and differences among software types to produce a wide range of documents, such as graphics or tables within text, to edit and reformat electronic drafts, and to update and revise existing databases or spreadsheets, in office automation. -OR- Education: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or completion of 4 academic years of pre-professional study. -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. **YOU MAY BE REQUIRE TO TYPE 45 WORD PER MIN FOR OFFICE AUTOMATION POSITIONS** KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports. Knowledge of rules, procedures, or operations applied to clerical assignment to perform the routine, procedural work of the office, such as preparing and editing documents, maintaining files/records, making and preparing travel arrangements, screening telephone calls and visitors, processing mail, planning, organizing, and carrying out assignments and composing routine, nontechnical information for recurring reports and inquiries. Knowledge of filing systems and procedures and the subject matter content of the materials being processed. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy. Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures; and computer hardware and/or software systems and their interfaces (if selected for Student Trainee (Computer Clerk/Assistant)) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Picks up, receives, opens, sorts, and distributes mail to appropriate individuals following specific instructions. Answers the telephone and refers callers/visitors to appropriate personnel based on specific name or functional area request. Sorts, codes, and files documents in an established alphabetical or simple subject-matter filing system. Reproduces and assembles copies of a variety of correspondence as instructed. Provides services in association with the installation, movement, maintenance, and accountability of hardware item (if selected for Student Trainee (Computer Assistant)
