About the Position: The incumbent of this position will serve as a Transportation Assistant for the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Joint Personal Property Shipping Office, Mid-Atlantic, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This is a Term appointment not to exceed 13 months.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Reviewing applications to move personal property from residence and/or non-temporary storage; 2) Preparing customs documents; and 3) Composing a variety of documents utilizing word processing software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service Oral Communication Packaging, Handling, Storage & Transportation Transportation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
Receives, reviews, and processes correspondence, orders, and applications to move property from residence and non-temporary storage.
Determines the most efficient and economical rates and routes for shipment and/or storage of household goods, unaccompanied baggage, personal effects, and/or mobile homes.
Explains and prepares customs documents for various overseas countries.
Prepares and processes various applications for transportation or storage of a wide range of personal property and privately owned vehicles, including special items.
Estimates any ancillary service costs and prepares service orders for all work relative to packing, drayage, and handling in and out of partial and fully stored lots.
Informs applicant of entitlements, secures appropriate orders and other required documents authorizing the shipment, and completes member's application for reimbursement.
Traces shipments which have not arrived when scheduled, and requests transshipment when required due to diversion of shipper to another assignment or other valid reason.
