You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: You must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Assessing traffic conditions and hazards locally and over long distance routes; 2) Using safety rules and regulations to operate vehicles such as, semi-tractor-trailers, heavy duty flatbed trucks, heavy fuel tank trucks, heavy straight in-line trucks, heavy duty tow trucks, heavy vacuum trucks, crane trucks, heavy duty waste disposal/trash collection trucks and vehicles weighing more than 32,000 pounds; and 3) Selecting routes based on hazardous conditions and laws restricting use of roads based on size of trucks. **NOTE** This information must be clearly supported in your resume. You will maneuver trucks (e.g., pickup, dump truck, water trucks, fork lifts, platform trucks) in close quarters or confined areas maintaining the safety of the vehicle and driver.
You will operate motor vehicles with an approximate gross weight up to 32,000 pounds when transporting hazardous waste or materials.
You will load and arrange cargo for safe transit on public roads at highway speeds or similar driving circumstances.
You will follow established practices to provide continuously safe and reliable operation of vehicles and equipment.
