To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education: 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree related to the occupation of this position. OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the Federal service. Experience in processing, assembling, troubleshooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment. The applicant must possess knowledge of the technical names, general uses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supply items; knowledge of decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures; knowledge of aseptic techniques; and skill in operating a washersterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steam sterilizers. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience in collecting, organizing, recording and effectively communicating information relevant to purchasing, ordering and distributing medical supplies and equipment. Experience in conducting and maintaining inventories of medical supplies and equipment for a central supply department in a medical center. Experience in sterilizing central supply medical equipment and supplies in accordance with infection control requirements. Knowledge of central supply terminology, technical standards, and methodology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Have a combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. Works closely with Health Services staff in providing day-to-day overall technical central supply support services for the Health Services Department. Responsible for the maintenance of the department inventory, supply distribution, control and reordering of all medical supplies and equipment. Maintains and conducts inventories, delivers supplies, retains necessary records, keeps statistics, maintains security of supplies and instruments and follows policies and procedures governing the use of supplies and equipment. Orders, receives, loads, transports, catalogs, stocks, issues and distributes incoming materials. Coordinates the delivery of special supplies and equipment through vendors and other resources. Inputs and maintains automated inventory database, updating daily supply logs and manual bin carding to assure supplies are reordered according to the needs of the institution. Follows Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), American Correctional Association (ACA) and national and local policies as the guidelines relate to the central supply area. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staffs correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
