Job Description:
This position is located with the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System Prosthetics Service. You will provide support to optimize the health and independence of the Veteran services provided within various settings, including the Veteran's Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) inpatient clinics, Outpatient Clinics, and domiciliaries throughout the United States.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-5: One year of creditable experience that demonstrates knowledge of basic medical and anatomy terminology; knowledge of accounting methods; and the ability to research, analyze and comprehend, and apply decisions OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution AND at least 24 semester hours in coursework related to healthcare, public administration, or business GS-7: One year of creditable experience equivalent to at least GS-5 that demonstrates knowledge of basic medical and anatomy terminology; knowledge of accounting methods; and the ability to research, analyze and comprehend, and apply decisions OR One full year of graduate level education GS-9: One year of creditable experience equivalent to at least GS-7 that demonstrates knowledge of basic medical and anatomy terminology; knowledge of accounting methods; and the ability to research, analyze and comprehend, and apply decisions OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree GS-11: One year of creditable experience equivalent to at least GS-9 that demonstrates knowledge of basic medical and anatomy terminology; knowledge of accounting methods; and the ability to research, analyze and comprehend, and apply decisions OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/. Duties Works directly with veterans and clinical teams to assist with applications and answer questions related to benefit programs provide recommendations to the treatment team regarding the development of prescriptions and provide technical assistance and guidance on the planning and coordination efforts to address complex patient medical and rehabilitative needs for equipment, services, and benefits. Conducts visits toto VISNs and VHA locations to collect, review, and analyze their best practice information and report findings to the supervisor to consider. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing drafts, develops, and implements new local organizational policies, directives, and procedures that are consistent with national policies, procedures, and programs. Maintains awareness of VA's, VHA's, and prosthetics service's requirements by governing bodies i.e. The Joint Commission (JC), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and American board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC) Works closely with supervisor or senior staff to plan, draft, and prepare budget estimates; to develop cost-containment measures for prosthetic equipment and services; to assist with authorizing benefit payment and reimbursement. Keeps abreast of current issues in the healthcare industry and technological advancements and provide subject matter expertise to VHA and prosthetic services senior officials as needed. Completes contracting and procurement assignments to prepare and authorize purchases for a wide variety of prosthetic and orthotic devices. Provide status reports regularly to the supervisor to keep the supervisor well informed for accountability purposes. Monitors and ensures requests for items or services are completed and received under established timeframes; and confers with contractors, vendors, and other healthcare workers as needed regarding procurement status and other needs and concerns. Conducts data analysis using the program's statistical data to prepare various reports regarding prosthetics and sensory aids. Ensures surgical implants are federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved Collaborates with clinical staff when devices and equipment require repair or replacement and takes necessary actions to resolve issues.
