To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Basic Requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND In addition to the Basic Requirements: Education/Experience: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. OR At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience developing a corrective action plan, providing training and implementing that plan to promote patient safety and improved clinical outcomes. Experience in leading or participating in an accreditation and/or program review audit in order to evaluate the effectiveness of operations for a variety of health care programs. Experience in conducting root cause analyses and policy or procedure change implementation via the Plan-Do-Check-Act model. Experience in writing nurse-based protocols and procedures that reflect appropriate community standard and utilization of the full scope of nursing practice. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. Serves as the Regional Nurse Consultant, Medical Asset Support Team (MAST), for the Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) correctional facilities located within the assigned Region. Assigned at an institution within the Region, and will be required to travel to any of the institutions within the Region to assist in patient care, training of other nursing staff, peer review, recruitment, nursing education, technical assistance or follow-up evaluation on clinical or administrative nursing issues identified by Program Review, Joint Commission, the American Correctional Association (ACA), the Chief Nurse/Central Office, the Regional Health Services Administrator (RHSA), the Regional Medical Director (RMD) or other internal or external reviews, when indicated. Provides nursing expertise and leadership throughout the Region, assisting in the assessment of current patient care delivery systems and making recommendations for improvements, based on evidence-based practice. Maintains an up-to-date and thorough knowledge of all Health Services Policies, BOP National Formulary, BOP Policies affecting Nursing services, BOP Clinical Practice Guidelines, Joint Commission Accrediting Standards and Central Office guidance. Responsible for the quality and appropriateness of comprehensive nursing care provided to patients. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staffs’ correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
