Works for the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Richmond, Virginia, as a direct report to the Mental Health Service, and is assigned to Intensive Community Mental Health Recovery (ICMHR) Services.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/25/2025. Social Worker, GS-12 Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following: (a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. (b) Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. (c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. (d) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). (e) Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. References: VA Handbook 5005/120, Part II, Appendix G39. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS 12.
The incumbent provides comprehensive program management and coordination for ICMHR services. The ICMHR team provides community-based, intensive case management and therapeutic services to Veterans diagnosed with serious mental illness. Intensive case management services are characterized by assertive outreach, individualized treatment planning, multidimensional orientation, and intensive delivery of services in the Veterans home or community. The incumbent oversees the provision or care to veterans admitted to ICMHR services. These Veterans are clinically and psychosocially complex. The incumbent will assure that program staff are aware of and adhere to all current VHA directives, licensure standards, VA Office of Inspector General expectations, and accreditation requirements. The incumbent will conduct ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies. The incumbent will participate in program evaluation, quality assurance, customer satisfaction activities, and develop performance improvement plans to improve measures and outcomes. The incumbent will also provide direct clinical services. The program coordinator is administratively responsible for clinical programming and prepares reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. They provide leadership, direction, orientation, coaching, in-service training, staff development, and continuing education programs for assigned staff. They initiate and conduct a variety of program or service audits and complete designated clinical practice audits and reports, including productivity assessments. They oversee program operations and evaluations, identifying areas for improvement, gathering relevant data, assessing the data, developing, and implementing ideas for improvement and evaluating efficacy of improvement efforts.
