This vacancy is for a GS-1712-12, Training Instructor located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, AVIATION TRAINING CENTER MOBILE PERSONNEL SUPPORT DEPARTMENT. Duty location will be Mobile, AL
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include the following: ???????Teaching subject areas in aircraft component familiarization, checklist protocol, aircraft systems, weight and balance, night vision goggles, aircraft operating limitations, aerodynamics, adverse weather operations, using of performance charts, preflight inspections, and normal and emergency procedures. Evaluating student progress and providing remedial training as necessary. Instructional proficiency in simulator-supported aircraft models and Coast Guard aviation operations Maintaining a current pulse of aviation-wide trends and issues, aviation mishap causal and contributory factors, as well as platform-­specific dynamics. Using technology to instruct remotely. NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. You will serve as a/an Training Instructor and be responsible for training and evaluating military pilots, including newly designated, former DoD, experienced Coast Guard and ATC instructor pilots, using facilitated online training and traditional in-person instruction in the classroom environment, cockpit procedural trainers, and flight training simulators. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Plans, develops, and conducts instruction and evaluation in flight training simulators, cockpit procedure trainers and desk top trainers. Coordinates the development and updates of training material, including establishing instructional and development criteria, formulating projects, and assessing course effectiveness. Plans, organizes, and conducts academic training on aircraft systems and procedures that leverages extensive subject matter expertise on advanced technical systems, as well as the operational employment of Coast Guard aircraft. Serves as authoritative technical expert on avionics and aircraft architecture systems in existing and emerging aviation platforms operated by the Coast Guard. Assists with equipment integration into operations, develops troubleshooting test plans, and liaises with aviation engineering staff to identify issues.
