The Aviation Safety Inspector, Cabin Safety position is assigned to the Air Carrier Safety Assurance, AFC-600 Division, AFC-640 Standardization branch and provides global expertise regarding regulatory oversight on a variety of air carrier and general aviation aircraft types, aviation safety governed by FAA policies, procedures and systems related to certification, surveillance, evaluation, investigation, the Safety Management System and the Safety Assurance System.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, and must meet all of the following requirements: A. Have a good distant vision in each eye and be able to read printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted) without strain; B. Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); C. Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others or that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft. To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience at the FV-I, FG/GS-13 level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include experience as an Aviation Safety Inspector (Cabin Safety), developing, administering or enforcing regulations and standards concerning cabin safety policy and operations, including safety aspects of aviation facilities, equipment and procedures, a broad knowledge of the aviation industry, the general principles of aviation safety, and the Federal laws, regulations and policies affecting aviation. Plans and conducts periodic in-depth evaluations and focused inspections involving the aviation and Air Transportation industry; evaluates Inspector Resources for the oversight of operators with high- risk profiles. Provides technical support and conducts research for internal stakeholders related to a variety of issues. Reviews Safety Assurance office requests to ensure all safety critical information is received from external stakeholders. Utilizes appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques to determine integration, work methods, practices, and procedures for Flight Standards products. The inspector often engages with internal and external stakeholders to promote safety, understanding, and compliance related to assigned programs.
