Job Description:

This position is responsible for the day to day scheduling and coordination of all vehicle operations for various vehicles assigned to the Orlando VAMC. The employee accomplishes this in a manner as to provide the best possible service with the most effective utilization of drivers and vehicles. Position is in Lake Baldwin Clinic, however can be assigned to work out of Lake Nona for operational needs as determined by needs of dept.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/27/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Advancement to positions up to GS-5. Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must have one year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-03) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes scheduling vehicles to be issued; receiving all Motor Vehicle Trip Tickets and logs, keys, credit cards and toll cards; logging gasoline, diesel fuel, oil and toll card usage, costs, etc.; monitoring telephone for coordination of assets and transportation needs; determining which piece of equipment is available and best suited for the particular purpose; providing route, destination information, and any special transportation requirements to the drivers, OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school (transcripts required) OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Customer Service Manages and Organizes Information Transportation Vehicle Maintenance Vehicle Operation Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work requires extended periods of utmost concentration and attention to details. Mental demands are high. Work requires good coordination and normal physical condition, manual dexterity andhearing/visual acuity. Requires long periods of sitting, walking, standing, stooping, and bending. Occasionally involves lifting, pushing and carrying boxes, crates, furniture, equipment, materials and supplies. DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TOO : Responsible for daily scheduling of all vehicles to be issued to VA Staff who need transportation on a daily or extended period and issuing and receiving all Motor Vehicle Trip Tickets and logs, keys, credit cards and toll cards to and from drivers. Reviews tickets or logs to ensure they are properly filled out and completed. Logs (on computer, schedule boards and/or in written logs) gasoline, diesel fuel, oil and toll card usage, costs, etc. on appropriate VA/GSA logs, as reported by drivers. Controls issuance of keys, toll cards and credit cards and inventories same at the close of each business day for proper accountability. Reports any noted discrepancies immediately to Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. Allocates and dispatches VA shuttle busses supporting approved corporate events, therapeutic trips for Mental Health Service and Community Living Center services, administrative facility routes, and Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) shuttle runs to Tampa, Lake Nona and outlying clinics. Schedules with warehouse and other logistical concerns for availability of large transport vehicles to sites located within Orlando V AMC geographical region. Monitors telephone and two-way radios for coordination of assets to ensure all areas of transportation needs are met. Provides route, destination information, and any special transportation requirements to the drivers. Knowledge of the geographic areas served and of the characteristics and capacity of the transportation equipment being dispatched to efficiently coordinate operations. Determines which piece of equipment is available and best suited for the particular purpose requested and the extent to which the position is authorized to commit the use of vehicles for extended time and/or distance. Notifies drivers of any changes in their schedule via telephone, or in person. Required to possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License with Passenger endorsement and will assist Motor Vehicle Operators and Transportation Fleet Assistant as required to take vehicles to maintenance shop for maintenance or repairs. Driver's License: A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid state-issued Driver's License. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00-4:30pm.
