You will serve as a Composite/Plastic Worker in the Production Resources Department (Shop 064) of PSNS and IMF.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. You will be applying fiberglass surface coatings and protective coverings to spray booths, acid tanks, ship decks, shop floors, battery boxes, workbenches, and sinks.
You will be fabricating the simpler handrails and ladders from fiberglass tubing and rod stock to meet blueprint and design specifications.
You will be manufacturing simpler jigs, templates, patterns, and molds to fabricate one-of-a-kind, unique, and/or interlocking items.
You will be measuring and calculating percentages and volumes for catalyst/resin mixtures, formulas for epoxy resins and formulates resin promoter requirements.
You will be laying out and installing simpler sheet and aluminum constraining plates, and fiberglass septum restraining plates, over plastic graphite hull damping.
You will be removing and covering tanks, refrigeration units and other structural objects with insulating materials to reduce heat loss or absorption, to prevent moisture condensation or to deaden sound.
You will be constructing simpler protective coverings to prevent damage to equipment and fixtures that are not being worked on or new equipment installed during the overhaul.
You will be using insulating materials such as foam plastic, man-made vitreous fibers and polyimide.
