Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
The District of Arizona is composed of approximately 180 Assistant United Attorneys (AUSAs) spread across offices in Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, and Flagstaff. Because of its size and location, the District of Arizona faces unique geographical challenges and resources demands. In addition to sharing a 375- mile border with Mexico, the office also handles one of the most robust Indian Country dockets in the country and serves as the exclusive felony prosecutor for nearly all of the 22 federally-recognized tribes whose reservation fall in whole or in part in Arizona. As a result, the office's charging figures are consistently among the highest of all United States Attorney's Offices. AUSAs hired in the District of Arizona have the immediate opportunity to represent the United States of America in the United States District Court. The positions currently being filled will investigate and prosecute cases involving illegal immigration, drug trafficking, human smuggling, and support to cartels and transnational criminal organizations designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs). Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
