Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. Overview of the United States Attorney's Office - District of Vermont The United States Attorney's Office, District of Vermont, is located in Burlington, Vermont. The office has approximately 21 Assistant United States Attorneys and 25 support staff, which support both the criminal and civil divisions. Our office has a friendly and talented staff, an outstanding relationship with the courts, and enjoys excellent professional working relationships with partner agencies. Duties of Criminal Assistant United States Attorney's The office is currently seeking applicants to fill one or more Assistant U.S. Attorney positions in the Criminal Division. Assignments will include responsibility for all phases of criminal prosecution, from providing guidance to law enforcement officers, initiating criminal charges, conducting grand jury proceedings and trials, handling appeals, and asset forfeiture matters. The positions currently being filled will investigate and prosecute cases involving illegal immigration, illegal trafficking of dangerous drugs and human beings (and related violent crime), and targeting the Cartels and Transitional Criminal Organizations designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs). Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
