QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires thorough techniques, knowledge and experience in dog grooming. Knowledge of animal's characteristics, and behavior. Requires skill in handling dogs and apply this skill to transfer dogs into and out of kennels and cages without injuring animals or getting bitten or scratched. Skillful in using corrects tools for grooming. Requires basic clerical experience, making appointments, collecting fees and setting up and maintaining files.
Incumbent looks after the condition of dogs' coats by shampooing, clipping, trimming and grooming. Advises owners on their dog's coat care, grooming and diet.
Discusses with the dog's owner what type of grooming is needed.
Checks skin for ticks, fleas, sore or inflamed areas and any lumps. Shampoos, dries, brushes, combs dog's coat to get rid of tangles.
Trims dog with electric clippers or stripping knife into the right shape for its bread and styles with scissors. Clips dog's claws, cleans teeth and ears.
Maintains cleanliness of kennels and crates. Keeps dog comfortable, safe and secure at all times. Cleans and sanitizes tools and equipment, keeping both in good working condition.
