Job Description:

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) at West Palm Beach VA Medical Center (VAMC) under direct supervision of the Operations Shop Supervisor and is assigned to the Energy Center of the Facility Management Service.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties include, but are not limited to: The duties of this position include but not limited to: Starts, stops, and regulates the utilities and their system components. Ensures that steam pressure is maintained at all times. Responsible for changing charts, receiving fuel oil shipments, monitoring the central liquid oxygen levels, and preparing orders for materials and/or services. Provides preventative maintenance according to predetermined routine guidelines on various mechanical equipment and systems. Makes decisions based on data trends to determine the need for adjustment and/or repair. Follows instructions and operating procedures and conveys ideas both orally and in writing. Troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs system components. Resolves emergency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning calls. Work Schedule: 12 hour rotating shifts or as required for Medical Center coverage determined by URSO Supervisor Position Description Title/PD#: Utility Systems Repair Operator/PD02727A and PD02727A Physical Requirements: Light to medium physical effort is required in observing equipment and adjusting controls. The work requires continual standing and walking also lifting up to 50 fifty pounds and more with assistance. Occasionally works in awkward and cramped conditions when making repairs. Some standing, stooping, bending, and working on ladders is required.
