These Medical Support Assistant positions are located at multiple Indian Health Service healthcare facilities at various locations. This announcement covers the following specialties: General, Purchased Referred Care, Dental, Medical Imaging, Laboratory/ Radiology, Nursing (Outpatient), and Nursing (Public Health). The Medical Support Assistant position duties and responsibilities are based on the department and specialty assigned. This position reports to the department supervisor on-site.
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. *** Specialized experience must be documented in your resume if you are applying for a specialty position. *** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-0679-4: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position. OR At least (2) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the GS-4 level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-0679-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks. Examples include: Assist patients with making appointments, interview patients to gather information, enter patient data into an electronic health record, assist patients in completing forms, review documents for accuracy, explain processes and policies to patients, initiate health records and admission forms. *** Specialized experience must be documented in your resume if you are applying for a specialty position. *** OR Completed at least (4) years of education above the high school level. OR Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify an applicant for the GS-5 level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-0679-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks. Examples include: knowledge of the appointment system, ability to coordinate patient care based on medical provider referral for purchased referred care services, assist with completion of admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients. *** Specialized experience must be documented in your resume if you are applying for a specialty position. *** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-0679-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks. Examples include: Generate a variety of third party and accounts receivable reports, generate aged reports, review delinquent patient account records, prepare claims for reimbursement of health services, complete work assignments with less than normal supervision. *** Specialized experience must be documented in your resume if you are applying for a specialty position. *** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-0679-8: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks. Examples include: Performing independent analysis and problem solving to develop appropriate information and evidence timely to generating third party alternate resources claims; tracking insurance claims and payments in all levels of examination; and maintenance of data in processing alternate resources reimbursement. *** Specialized experience must be documented in your resume if you are applying for a specialty position. *** Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
