Serves as the Facilities, Operations, & Maintenance Branch Supervisor. Oversees the operation, maintenance, and repair of all reserved works features and various pumping plants, canal embankments, diversion structures, drainage features, pipelines, culverts, and water conveyance facilities within the Klamath Project. Facilities include multiple Dams within the Klamath Project, located in Southern Oregon and Northern California. Operates electrical and mechanical equipment to regulate the positions of the gates and stop logs that comprise the control structures of Link River Dam, Keno Dam, Gerber Dam, Clear Lake Dam, and various diversion dams (i.e. Lost River) and approximately 9 pumping plants dispersed within a 60-mile radius. Performs water operation tasks for irrigation and flood control, calculating, and making prescribed water releases, records reservoir elevations, and gate openings. Manages the general maintenance of Reclamation owned buildings, storage facilities, warehouses, etc. Performs a variety of trades and crafts duties associated with the maintenance and operation of the Klamath Basin Area Office (KBAO), its grounds and facilities, using skills, techniques and methods of carpentry, painting, masonry, pipefitting, welding, and irrigating. -Independently performs water operations tasks as directed or in accordance with established procedures. -Coordinates with representatives of irrigation districts, individual water users, and other federal offices (e.g., U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) regarding water operations. -Supervises, monitors, and maintains (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) SCADA equipment for KBAO dam facilities. -Reads, records, and transmits lake elevation data, downstream river flow rates and stage data, staff gage readings at reservoirs and conveyance system control points and all other required information. -Serves as the subject matter expert/operator for all Dams within the Klamath Project. Operations may be required at any hour of the day, night, or weekend as dictated by the operations schedule, varying climatic conditions, or flood control requirements. -Takes independent actions during emergencies until contact with the Engineering Division Chief or Area Manager can be established. Takes independent action to implement the emergency action plan when needed. -Performs daily inspections of each dam structure including the gates and operating equipment, the upstream and downstream concrete aprons, the adjacent dam embankments, and the upstream and downstream riverbanks and channels. -Inspects for cracking, erosion, worn or damaged components, water seepage or boils, vegetation, obstructions, vandalism, and burrowing animals. Immediately reports any findings to the Engineering Division Chief, and Safety specialist for the Klamath Basin Area Office. -Makes irrigation water deliveries available through points of diversions to private lands from canal turnouts, water releases into water areas under Fish and Wildlife control, and from wildlife regulating ponds into Project leased lands. -Responsible for administering and promoting the participation of subordinates in management programs, such as beneficial suggestions, quality assurance, and cost reduction. -Performs maintenance work as issues arise to include but not limited to - Constructs, installs, repairs, or modifies wooden, steel, and concrete structures and applicable features, such as panels, stop logs, concrete forms, dry wall, framework, interior and exterior trim, cabinets, culverts, metal gates and stems, fences, bridges, etc. Measures and cuts materials to required dimensions, assembles with appropriate hardware or adhesives, and finishes completed work (e.g., planes, sands, seals, paints) as necessary. Prepares and paints metal, wood, concrete and other surfaces using standard products and coating methods (e.g., brushing, rolling, spraying). Prepares and applies coating materials according to specific directions (e.g., thins, stirs, mixes). Builds or repairs concrete and masonry structures (e.g., sidewalks, walls). Installs, repairs, and replaces pipe, tile, union joints, faucets, drains and related items. Duties involve working around and servicing of farm and construction-type equipment, such as rubber-tired backhoe, motor grader, 10-yard dump truck, lowboy, dozer, farm tractor, hydraulic excavator, front end loader, forklift, boat, power mowers, asphalt pots, small cement mixer, light-duty truck, ATV, snowmobiles, overhead crane, boom truck, mobile crane, and motor vehicles, fabrication and welding, including Metal Insert Gas (MIG), Tungsten Insert Gas (TIG), Arc and gas welding and cutting, operations on mild steel, cast iron, and aluminum to build or repair gates, bulk heads, turnouts, and stop logs.
