Job Description:
The District of Columbia Courts, offers internships for students interested in seeking valuable experience in courts administration. Interns have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Courts’ mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and resolve disputes fairly and effectively in the District of Columbia. This internship is for Summer 2025.
Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized by United States Citizenship and Immigration Service to intern in the U.S and at least 18 years old. THIS INTERNSHIP IS FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN LEGAL/ACCOUNTING/FINANCE PROGRAMS ONLY Preference will be given to students with majors in Political Science, Social Services, Finance & Accounting. Law students must be enrolled in an accredited law school program. The student must be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week to track ABA credit hour requirements. Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted. The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.
This position is an unpaid internship. There are 2 (two) Internship opportunities. The intern's major duties are below: Legal Intern Assist the auditor master in processing cases in the areas of probate, civil, tax and family law. Attend and participate in evidentiary hearings Research legal problems and prepare memoranda for the auditor-master Assist in resolving legal issues affecting the audit and stating of accounts Assist in the preparation or reports, which includes findings of fact and conclusions of law Accounting Intern Preparing Accounts Reviewing financial statements Determining values of assets and liabilities Identifying missing documentation Reviewing federal and local tax filings
