Job Description:
The District of Columbia Courts, offers internships for students interested in seeking valuable experience in courts administration. Interns have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Courts' mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and resolve disputes fairly and effectively in the District of Columbia. This internship is open for the summer 2025.
Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized by United States Citizenship and Immigration Service to intern in the U.S and at least 18 years old. Applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate school program. Preferred Program: Political Science, Criminal Justice The student must be able to commit a minimum of 12 hours per week. Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted. The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.
The Domestic Violence Division handles: Civil Protection Orders, Anti-Stalking Orders, Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and all misdemeanor criminal cases involving an 'intra-family offense.' This position is an unpaid internship. The intern's major duties are below: Assist the public with checking in for Domestic Violence Division court proceedings. Assist the public with inquires concerning hearing and docket information. Utilizes the Court’s Case Management System to research case information. Assist courtroom clerks in sending completed orders or paperwork to parties. Assist Domestic Violence Division staff as needed.
