Job Description:
This position is in the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Department of Technology Services, Cloud Hosting and Networks Office (CHNO), Infrastructure Engineering Division (IED). CHNO provides information technology services to AO directorates, the court community, and federal Judiciary partners. The IED is responsible for providing national information technology services to the Judiciary with specific focus on network planning, network architecture design, and engineering.
Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience in ALL of the following: Network infrastructure and hardware. Infrastructure devices, including switches, routers, wireless access points, controllers, and firewalls. Designing, monitoring, and repairing local area networks and wide area networks. Highly desired but not required Familiarity with the federal Judiciary and AO policies. Experience in IT service management and cloud hosting network concepts.
The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Cloud Hosting and Networks Office, Infrastructure Engineering Division is seeking an experienced Information Technology Specialist (Network Engineer) to join its team. CHNO's IT services portfolio includes cloud hosting services (private and public), network operations services, and related support services. The IT Specialist (Network) is responsible for supporting network planning, network architecture design, and engineering. This generalist role partners closely with the Chief Operating Officer office chiefs, division chiefs, branch chiefs, and team members to empower the Judiciary by providing national information technology services to the Judiciary. The incumbent will support several Department of Technology Services programs, including local area network (LAN) health services, national wireless services, court moves, and LAN segmentation. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Leading teams to produce network architecture artifacts depicting communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, and transmission and signaling links and protocols. Executing procedures and coordinating corrective action to optimize network performance. Participating and leading efforts to design, install, and troubleshoot network systems, including wireless, to meet the functional objectives of the organization. Performing activities to configure and maintain physical/logical network components. Performing service management actions supporting capacity and resource planning, assessing network risks, and developing contingency plans. Supporting the development, creation, and maintenance of current network device configurations, circuit information, and operations network diagrams for network infrastructure, including developing database requirements and establishing data file backups. Developing processes to inventory all data network equipment and perform periodic inventory audits and reviews to ensure switches, routers, and other applicable devices and applications are property configured, used, and maintained. Performing detailed router scripting and filtering to manage network traffic. Mentoring new team members to ensure a smooth transition from the learning environment to the daily production environment and potentially providing formal training. Developing job aides and other tools to assist engineers in improving overall quality of service.
