This position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI), Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Security Guard you will be responsible for providing protective security services guarding the campus of SIPI, including personnel, students, equipment, property and materials.
Individual Occupational Requirements: Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below and can be found here: OPM Operating Manual, General Qualification Standards for Security Guard Series, GS-0085. Medical Requirements: The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirements you must also meet the following Minimum Qualifications requirements below. Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-05 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that includes: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. As a Security Guard, GS-0085-5, your typical work assignments may include the following: Perform typical daily duties and responsibilities of the security guard, including foot and vehicle patrol and inspections in accordance with appropriate regulations. Coordinates information and responses to ensure consistency and conformance with program policies. Interact with public, employees, students, local law enforcement agencies and emergency response personnel. Provide support for planning, review and reporting for program/project studies. Documents and maintains daily duties and reports as required by program policy by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person. In emergency situations, administers First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
