Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Work requires frequent physical exertion when lifting, moving, and carrying items weighing up to 60 pounds. Heavier and bulky/unwieldy items are moved with the assistance of others or by materials handling equipment. Work involves standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping when identifying and handling material. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a hazardous materials/hazardous waste warehouse environment. Works outside and inside in areas that are hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. Subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, chemical fumes, noxious fumes, and skin irritants. Working conditions are a normal part of the job and are considered in the evaluation of the position. Safety and Health Requirements: Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned. Types of protective clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to, the following: safety eyeglasses, respirators, and steel-toed shoes and protective clothing such as gloves, mask, apron, and coveralls. Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials.
Exercises technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers.
Plans the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials based on workload projections on a weekly or monthly basis.
Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, in accordance with general work schedules, methods, and policies established by higher-level supervisors.
Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects.
Assigns work to individual workers by verbal or written instructions.
Monitors work in progress and inspects completed work to assure work order requirements.
Sets performance standards for subordinates and makes formal appraisals of their work performance.
Counsels employees and discusses informal complaints and grievances with workers and union representatives.
Initiates disciplinary actions as needed.
Maintains work reports and records.
