Recruiting for one Dentists at each location: Dental Clinic at the Wausau, Wisconsin Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), and one at the Tomah VAMC. Clinic hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Dental Staff Requirement: Staff Dentist. An individual that demonstrates the ability in the field of general dentistry or a dental specialty who is employed to perform the duties related to various professional activities of patient care and treatment without supervision. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must demonstrate ability in the general practice of dentistry; be capable of assisting in maintaining accepted standards of professional care in VA facilities; and be capable of accepting full responsibility for the proper care and treatment of assigned patients. Preferred Experience: Currently Practicing, VA experience, Residency (AEGD or GPR) References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-3 Dentist Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Per VA Directive and Handbook 5019 - a physical examination will be conducted based on the physical requirements of the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. Physician applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested. Position requires walking, bending, stooping, light lifting (under 15 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, both legs required, walking (2 hours), standing (2 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, both eyes required, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, Hearing (aid may be permitted), working alone, working closely with others, and protracted or irregular hours of work. The Tomah VA Medical Center is located in an attractive, rural community of 9,000 with a family-oriented, Midwest atmosphere. While Tomah offers the benefits of small community living, big city life isn't far away. La Crosse and Madison, WI are an hour or so away and Milwaukee, WI and Minneapolis, MN are a three-hour drive. The area offers high quality public and parochial schools, a local community hospital and a multitude of recreational activities year-round. This position requires proficiency and productivity in all areas of General Dentistry including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. The position will require excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urgent and chronic dental problems in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals. General Dentist to perform duties and responsibilities in the Dental Clinic. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Function as a full team member of the interdisciplinary team serving patients at Tomah VA Medical Center. Patient population includes medically compromised, outpatients, inpatients, and nursing home patients. Provide complete range of dental care to patients including removable and fixed prosthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, restorative dentistry, endodontics, and restoration of implants. - Follow-up clinic visits for existing dental problems. Document assessments and plan of care for each patient in accordance with policies and procedures. - Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure continuity of patient care. Collaborate and act as a patient advocate. - Maintain knowledge of new and current clinical methods. BLS certified from an AHA approved course.
