SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. This position is aligned under the Plumbing and Electric Shop, Facilities Management Division, at the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI (695) - a Level 1a Complexity VHA Facility. The work involves installation, modification, repairing, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, appliances, components, lighting fixtures, controls, and equipment. Major Duties: -Incumbent independently works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. The incumbent determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, and fixtures, to include light fixtures. Completes installations, modifications, and repairs, and load and test systems, circuits, equipment, and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of work. -Tests, adjusts, inspects, diagnoses trouble and safely shuts down equipment for routine and emergencies for repairs. Incumbents works on all types of electrical equipment in the medical center to include meters, lighting equipment, generators, electronic fire and smoke alarm systems, emergency warning systems; lighting protection systems; high intensity lighting systems with associated controls, cabling for computers and closed circuit TV. Determines the nature and extent of repairs and makes necessary repairs. Reassembles and installs equipment once repaired. Independently disassemble, move and relocate various pieces of equipment and installs new equipment. -Installs, replaces, adjusts and sets various regulating and safety devices such as meters, gauges, and automatic alarms. -Recommends action to his supervisor and/or leader when systems or equipment problems are of such magnitude and urgency that immediate shutdown is required for repair by others. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7 AM- 3:30 PM and may be required to be present to provide off-hours support for utility outages, maintenance and projects support, etc.; This position is eligible for Alternate Work Schedule of 8 - 9 hour days, 1 - 8 hour day and one day off a pay period being a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Physical Requirements: Repairs and installations are made from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard to reach places. This requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work requires frequently lifting and carrying of tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is performed both inside and outside. The incumbent is sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters such as manholes and attics. Incumbent is occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors; and is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
