This position is part of The The Office of the Inspector General, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.
To qualify for the Attorney-Advisor (General), PG -0905-14, you must meet the following requirements: "BASIC REQUIREMENTS: (1) An applicant must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have a professional law degree(LL. B or JD). AND (2) Must be an active member in good standing of the appropriate licensing authority of any state, territory of the United States, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or District of Columbia bar. NOTE: You are required to disclose any current allegations or previous findings of ethics, judicial, or other professional misconduct by any state bar or attorney disciplinary committee. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, to qualify for the PG-14 level position, you must have successfully completed at least 3 years of professional legal experience post bar admission, with one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-13 level. Specialized experience includes providing legal advice on employment law issues and providing legal representation in administrative proceedings. NOTE: Experience must be as a licensed attorney in order to be creditable. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.
Provide legal support on all matters relating to GPO OIG management, legislative relations with Congress, and independent and confidential legal advice and assistance to the Inspector General.
Conduct legal research and analysis into complex and difficult questions of criminal, civil, and administrative law and procedures; representing the OIG in administrative proceedings.
Prepare memoranda, reports, correspondence, and where litigation is undertaken, assists in the preparation of briefs, motions, and other pleadings in coordination with the Department of Justice.
Advise on the legality or policy implications of operations, activities, or changes in procedures, as well as attempting to resolve problems and issues to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Assist with preparation of IG testimony and aids in the preparation of IG appearances, when requested and approved, before committees of Congress.
