Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year.

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Inventorying and treating weeds with herbicide and other integrated approaches, leading work crews and assigning tasks in treating weeds, reporting accomplishments, mapping treatment locations, and mixing and applying herbicides within government policy and regulations. -OR- Education: At least one full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education from an accredited college or university in a field directly related to the work of the position. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. You must provide a copy of your transcripts. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate level education described above when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. (To compute, first determine your experience as a percentage of the experience required; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100%). You must provide a copy of your transcripts. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring running, walking, or bending; walking or climbing over rocky areas, through dense vegetation, and in mountainous terrain. The incumbent must be in good physical condition, be able to lift heavy objects, and perform strenuous physical activity for prolonged periods of time. The incumbent may be required to carry up to 45 pounds on his/her back over uneven terrain. Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The employee will carefully adhere to all safety policies and procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
Provides practical technical support related to the scientific management of noxious weed populations in rangeland environments.
Performs duties in the following areas: weed control, project leadership, inventory/mapping, rangeland rehabilitation, reporting/documentation and public contact.
Prepares a variety of weed treatment strategies and pesticide use proposals utilizing an integrated management approach. Works closely with landowners and cooperators within the field office.
Tracts results of treatment efforts and keeps inventory of new reported infestations.
