This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. The Section Chief of Primary Care in Sanford care ensures the continuation of comprehensive health care for veteran patients. The scope of care is responsible for Primary Care services, but must also provide indirect oversight for all medical, surgical, and ancillary services provided at this facility. The incumbent directs daily operations to ensure smooth flow and transition of care for the patient. Includes direct supervision of clinical operations to include all Primary Care providers in support of assigned location in the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care System. They will work collaboratively with Nursing, pharmacy, and specialty services and GPM leadership to ensure efficient and high-quality care. Services provided by staff are conducted via multiple modalities, including virtual and in-person care. As the Sanford Section Chief, this individual is responsible for primary care providers, providing services and programming for the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Ensures Primary Care services, including appropriate consultation services and veteran same day access, shall be available to meet the needs of patients and their physicians. Specific functions shall include identifying potential areas of growth and potential shortfalls of current operations. Clinical To function effectively in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities, the incumbent, must possess a broad knowledge of clinical medicine, basic medical sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, and operations. The incumbent needs to have graduated from an accredited MD program and be able to perform and teach all of the services required in the practice of Primary Care Medicine as listed below at a minimum: Medical significance, interpretation, and correlation of patient testing data. Anatomic Pathology - able to interpret and explain anatomic pathology results as appropriate. Consultations - Able to provide consultations for patients, instructing physicians as appropriate. Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, including comprehensive patient assessment, health history, physical examination, and patient education to Veterans in the Primary Care team setting; outpatient include both scheduled and unscheduled Veterans. Function as an integral part of a Primary Care multi-disciplinary team. Administrative Duties Leadership responsibilities: organizing staff meetings, communication both down to staff and up to leadership. The Sanford Section Chief functions as a liaison to Deputy Chief of Primary Care. He/she ensures orientation to service rotation for program trainees (residents, students), if any. Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitoring and coordinating educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision. The Section Chief will conduct a bi-annual review of all the Sanford primary care providers that report to them to include proficiency reports and mid-year review, OPPEs (2x a year), FPPEs as requested by PSB, promotions, disciplinary actions & grievances, training requirements, employee health requirements, and Peer Reviews. Section Chief will be responsible to monitor and address tour of duties, approvals of leave and premium pay in current time management system, timecard certification, approvals of clinic cancellations. The Sanford Section Chief is accountable to the Deputy Chief of Primary Care. The Primary Care Section Chief directly supervises all primary care providers for Sanford.
