Job Description:
Podiatry is the health care profession that specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of foot and ankle conditions through medical and surgical means.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.

To accomplish this mission, the Podiatry Services needs to be: Fully integrated into the interdisciplinary health care team, providing the full scope of podiatric services based on education, training, licensure and competency An emphasis on prevention and wellness as the overriding philosophy of practice, and Provide care in the most cost-effective manner while assuring adequate access, and maintain a high level of quality as measured by patient satisfaction. The Podiatry Service may include, but is not limited to the following: Outpatient Podiatry medical and surgical services Inpatient Podiatry medical and surgical services Nursing Home/Domiciliary medical and surgical services Ongoing prevention, in-service, and patient education programs, Direction, teaching, and training of residents and students enrolled in training programs in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, and Maintenance and upkeep of clinic logs, patient medical charts, and other documents necessary in the operation of an inpatient/outpatient treatment clinic.
