Job Description:

A Regional Supervisory Wildlife Inspector, GS-1801-14 position, with the R9 Chief, Wildlife Inspection Program (WIP), is responsible for managing the operations and activities of the assigned region's inspection program, which includes complex inspection and compliance work to enforce and administer laws and regulations governing the import, export, and interstate commerce of live wildlife, wildlife parts, and wildlife products.
Only experience and education obtained by 05/05/2025 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position, you must possess the Minimum Qualification. Minimum Qualification GS-14: One (1) year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government. Specialized experience must include: 1) Implementing federal inspection program goals and strategies, setting priorities, directing and coordinating overall port operations; 2) Conducting preliminary investigations pertaining to illegal import and export of wildlife and/or other commodities in the import/export trade; 3) Drafting summaries or reports on import/export issues and of investigations conducted; 4) Auditing or reviewing records on import/export activities; and 5) Responding to inquiries related to import/export inspection work and procedures, and acting as liaison with other agencies, tribes, and organizations. NOTE: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time In Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the JOA. Specifically, i. As a Regional Supervisory Wildlife Inspector, duties include but are not limited to the following: Manages the Region's WIP by directing subordinate supervisors and wildlife inspectors at ports of entry to enforce U.S. and international laws, regulations, and treaties related to wildlife import, export, and interstate commerce, while ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations, and oversees the efficiency of program operations. Coordinates with Senior Wildlife Inspectors at Headquarters and the Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) management team to develop national WIP priorities and ensure consistent policy implementation, messaging, and enforcement of import and export regulations. Engages with senior officials from other federal law enforcement agencies, high-ranking state and local government officials, and Indian Tribes to enforce wildlife laws and to develop and implement national and international wildlife agreements. Reviews case reports and provides input in response to Congressional and media inquiries, as well as to the Washington Office, on policy issues, sensitive political matters, and cases of national significance. Performs a full range supervisory duties, including leading subordinates to direct, oversee, and coordinate their work.
